Toolbox for an energy transition

In the margins of the Virtual Regional Forum "Global Trends in Energy Transition and Climate Change: Subnational Level Actions” organized by the Ministry of the Environment, Sustainable Development and Territorial Planning of the state of Puebla (SMADSOT) and the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP), the Fourth Webinar “Toolbox: Work Sessions with Public Policy Instruments” was held.  The event took place on August 19, 2021 and consisted of three simultaneous round tables for the provision of three public policy tools that could be applied to energy transition issues.

In the round table "Socio-economic co-benefits of sustainable energy", developed by the program Enhancing the Coherence of Climate and Energy Policies in Mexico (CONECC) implemented by GIZ in Mexico in collaboration with Ithaca Environmental, the importance of measuring the positive impacts on the subnational employment derived from the adoption of renewable energies. During the session, the I-JEDI model applied to the quantification of jobs was presented, as well as the experience of Yucatán in the adoption of the tool.

The round table "Distributed generation - community and cooperative energy", led by the project Energy Transition Support Program in Mexico (TrEM) implemented by GIZ in Mexico and the Laboratory for Economic and Social Innovation (LAINES), focused on the development of community and sustainable energy cooperatives models. In it, the development and implementation of the project LUZ-ES was presented, which focused on training and accompanying cooperatives around sustainable energies in five states of Mexico (Sonora, Jalisco, Mexico City, Puebla and Quintana Roo).

The round table "Implementation of Energy Management Systems through Learning Networks" centered on the development of comprehensive models to promote a culture of saving and the efficient use of energy to be adopted by an organization regardless of its size. Throughout the session, they discussed the opportunities and challenges in the implementation of this type of model to improve the energy performance of organizations and local governments.

At the end of each of the sessions, the audience had the opportunity to talk and reflect on the content of the session to enrich the session. With the organization to carry out these activities, the EP contributes to propelling action and dialogue at the subnational level to enhance the development of the energy transition in Mexico.
