Phasing out #IFFS – G20 Fossil Fuel Subsidy Peer Review: Lessons and best-practice from Mexico and Germany

Following the G20 Summit in Hamburg in July 2017, the aim of this event was to increase awareness about the existence and results of the German-Mexican voluntary peer-review and to continue discussing successful pathways for reducing IFFS. Therefore, the voluntary peer-review process was presented by Special Counsellor for Fossil Fuel Subsidy Reform of the OECD, Ron Steenblik, followed by a presentation by David Coady, Chief of Expenditure Policy Divison, Fiscal Affairs Department (IMF) outlining the experience gained by the first G20 IFFS peer-review “couple”, China and the U.S.

Finally, details on the status quo and next steps of IFFS reforms in Germany and Mexico were presented by the German Embassy in Mexico and the Mexican Ministry of Finance and Public Credit Mexico (SHCP).
