Latin American hydrogen associations show potential to boost green hydrogen economy

Mexico.-  On February 8th, 2022, the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP) participated in the webinar "Global Green Hydrogen Outlook", organized by the startup EnerYou. The aim of the event was to bring together different experts from the United States, Mexico and Latin America to present the general overview and to dialogue about green hydrogen in Latin America.

The webinar began with a presentation by William Jensen, EP advisor, entitled "Global outlook for green hydrogen: international uses and best practices", which highlighted the current potential of green hydrogen to decarbonize industry and the probable increase in demand by 2050 for both traditional and new usages.

Frank Wolak, President and CEO of the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association, presented the talk "US hydrogen Industry and Trends" on the current market for green hydrogen for industrial processes and the promotion of public policies for green hydrogen in the United States through a roadmap based on establishing reliable decarbonization targets and generating the necessary incentives and support in the market.

During the second part of the webinar, representatives of hydrogen associations from Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Perú, Argentina and Chile presented the potential of renewable energies and the competitive costs of hydrogen production in each country, as well as the associated benefits in terms of job creation.

The representatives also presented strategies and pilot projects that are currently underway, as well as the challenges they face to boost the development of green hydrogen and the decarbonization of their economies.

The webinar concluded with a Q&A session, where experts highlighted that the main sectors to benefit from the development of green hydrogen would be the transport and industrial sectors. In addition, they emphasized the importance of having a regulation that addresses the regulation of industry and the demand for green hydrogen at the same time.

With its participation, the EP promotes dialogue and cooperation on green hydrogen matters to enhance the decarbonization of the economy and the energy transition in Latin America.
