Leveraging digitalization - Cybersecurity in the Power Sector |

Cybersecurity in the Power Sector

The liberalization of electricity markets, as well as the system integration of variable renewable energy, require that there be a reliable and safe energy system.

In that interest, the Mexican Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), the Mexican System Operator (CENACE) and the Energy Partnership jointly organized a discussion forum on 13th November in which academics, public sector representatives, regulators, as well as companies, debated about the needs and challenges of cybersecurity.

At the event "Cybersecurity in the Power Sector" attendees had the opportunity to acquire and exchange knowledge with experts from both the organizing institutions - CRE and CENACE - and other renowned institutions such as the Florence School for Regulation (FSR), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the Mexican National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energies (INEEL) and the German Association of Energy and Water Industry (BDEW). Practical cases from countries such as Germany, Estonia and Mexico were presented. The sessions discussed common challenges, the policies and regulations associated with the protection of critical infrastructure that underlie digitalization, and cybersecurity in the electricity sector.
