Strengthening technical dialogue, collaboration and cooperation in the electricity sector in Mexico

On April 13, 2021, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) through the Networks Business Sub-Directorate (SNR) of the Corporate Directorate of Operations (DCO), the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy (INEEL) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) was signed. As part of the agreements derived from the signing of this document, joint actions will be promoted for the consolidation of energy generation from renewable sources, the strengthening of transmission networks and the distributed generation of electricity in Mexico.

The involved parties will establish a technical cooperation program to promote a series of joint actions regarding sustainable energy in Mexico, considering at all times the policies, priorities and strategies of CFE as the guiding principles of the collaboration.

The Memorandum lays the foundations for a constant and permanent dialogue for the development and transformation of the electricity sector. The cooperation of the involved parties will focus on forecasting, planning, identification and development of trends and technologies for the incorporation of renewable energies into the energy system. Additionally, it will promote the identification and design of innovative business models; dialogues on energy storage systems; the digitalization of the electricity system; the use of green hydrogen for electricity generation; the economics of the electricity sector and the planned and orderly incorporation of distributed generation.

All activities will be developed through technical support and institutional collaboration between the parties. The signing of this MoU contributes to the implementation, through collaboration, of beneficial actions to the environment, the economy and society.
