In April 2016, the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the Mexican State Secretary of Energy signed a joint declaration of intent for a bilateral energy partnership. Through its numerous initiatives and activities, the partnership is constantly enhancing the bilateral cooperation and supporting the transformation of energy systems.

The German-Mexican Energy Partnershio (EP) joins the strategic alliances promoted by the Mexican Hydrogen Association (AMH2), with the aim of promoting the exchange of information and best practices for the development and use of green hydrogen technology in Mexico.

On Thursday, December 13th, 2021, the GIZ, through the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP) and the Program to Support the Energy Transition in Mexico (TrEM), together with the Mexican Hydrogen Society organized the panel discussion "Implementation of green hydrogen in Mexico" with the objective of amplifying the dialogues regarding joint actions to promote the successful use of this technology.

Virtual participation in the Energy Forum Poblano 2021

On December 1st and 2nd the Poblano Energy Forum 2021, organized by the Energy Agency of the State of Puebla, was held. The objective of the event was to discuss and exchange experiences and opinions regarding innovation and financing trends to enhance a more sustainable and inclusive energy sector in Mexico. 

During the forum, the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP), participated together with specialists from the British Embassy and the consulting firm Sherpas in the panel "International cooperation towards sustainable development", in order to discuss cooperation strategies in the energy sector.

Organization of the forum: "Women in the energy sector: celebrating the global network of women for the energy transition"

The forum "Women in the energy sector: celebrating the global network of women for the energy transition", had the objective of recognizing the urgency of fostering a gender equity in the energy sector, and to celebrate the launch of the "Woman Energize Woman" campaign, a communication initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi), and implemented in the country by the German Cooperation for Sustainable Development in Mexico (GIZ Mexico) and the German Federation for Renewable Energies (BEE).

Likewise, among other initiatives, the Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET) program was recognized, which seeks to increase a fair incidence of women in the sector by identifying and eliminating systemic issues that foster gender disparity.

Collaborating to promote entrepreneurship, innovation and social impact in the energy sector

During INCmty 2021, the largest festival of innovative entrepreneurship in Latin America, which was celebrated on November 8th, 9th and 10th, the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP) participated and supported three events with the aim of disseminating key information about the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Mexico and enhancing innovative solutions in the energy sector that counteract climate change and have a positive social impact.

Participation in the “SET Tech Festival 2021- Start Up Energy Transition”

On the margins of the fifth edition of the festival “SET Tech Festival 2021 Start Up Energy Transition” organized by the German Energy Agency (dena) in cooperation with the World Energy Council (WEC), on October 20, 2021, the Secretariat of the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP) moderated a virtual panel with the aim of discussing the innovation and energy entrepreneurship ecosystem in Latin America.  

Hybrid conference in “Energy Expo Veracruz 2021”

The Mexican-German Climate Change Alliance and the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP) programs participated on October 15, 2021 in the hybrid event "Expo Energía Veracruz 2021" organized by the government of the State of Veracruz through the Ministry of Economic and Ports Development (SEDECOP) and the State Energy Agency of Veracruz (AEEV).

The coordinator of the Climate and Energy Cluster, Philipp Schukat, presented the conference "Strategies and alternatives for a green recovery". Marco Hüls, coordinator of the EP, gave a conference named "Blockchain in the Mexican Energy Sector". Both interventions had the objective of discussing several topics and activities being promoted to enhance the digital transformation, the sustainable development and the energy transition in Mexico and the world.

Hybrid Event:“Meeting the goals of climate change: The potential of green hydrogen for Mexico and its economy”

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Mexican-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CAMEXA) and GIZ in Mexico, though the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP), commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy (BMWi), and Support for the Energy Transition in Mexico (TrEM), commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), held on October 14 the event “Meeting the goals of climate change: The potential of green hydrogen for Mexico and its economy”.

The purpose of the conference was to bring together experts from the business, scientific and governmental sector in person and virtually, to dialogue about the potential of using green hydrogen in Mexico.

XXI International Congress of the Mexican Hydrogen Society: “Green Hydrogen: Bridge between Germany and Mexico”

On September 24th, 2021, on the margins of the XXI International Congress of the Mexican Hydrogen Society, the secretariat of the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP) participated in the second session of the day with a presentation entitled “Green Hydrogen-Bridge between Germany and Mexico ". 

Online Event:“Puebla: Detonando el potencial del Hidrógeno Verde desde lo Local”

On September 23rd, 2021, the Energy Agency of the State of Puebla (AEEP) in collaboration with the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP), the GIZ Supporting the energy transition in Mexico (TrEM) Program and the energy consulting firm Hinicio, celebrated the event “Puebla: Detonating the potential of Green Hydrogen from the Local Level”.

Second Edition of the Climate Change Action Groups (GACC)

On September 2nd, 2021, in the margins of the second edition of the Climate Change Action Groups (GACC), the German-Mexican Energy Partnership (EP) moderated, together with the project Energy Transition Support Program in Mexico (TrEM), a round table entitled "Energy Transition Facing Climate Change: Actions at the Subnational Level".

The objective of this table was to address the experiences and results acquired from the activities developed at the subnational level with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the state of Quintana Roo and the Ministry of the Environment, Sustainable Development and Territorial Planning (SMADSOT) of the State of Puebla together with the German Cooperation for Sustainable Development in Mexico (GIZ) in the field of the energy transition.
